Sumedang, Zona Musik – The 97th Youth Pledge Day commemoration was used by the Tampomas Youth Guardians (PANAS) to question the status of 22,514 hectares of Mount Tampomas area proposed as a Geothermal Preliminary Survey and Exploration Assignment Area (WPSPE).
The Chairman of PANAS, Cecep, revealed that the fact was uncovered during a Public Hearing (RDPU) at the Sumedang Regency DPRD on October 21, 2026.
"As many as 22,514 hectares of the Mount Tampomas area have been proposed to Jakarta for Geothermal WPSPE through Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 309.K/EK.04/MEM.E/2025 dated September 12, 2025," said Cecep in the 2026 Youth Pledge release, Tuesday (10/28).
According to him, the proposal was based on two letters from the Regent of Sumedang dated February 22, 2023 and January 18, 2024, and one letter from the Regional Secretary. However, until now the contents of the three letters have never been disclosed to the public.
"That is why we, the Tampomas Youth Guardians together with the Sumedang Larang Indigenous Council and other coalition partners, requested a public hearing with the DPRD," he said.
He regretted the result of the RDPU. Based on Minutes No. B.A. 000.5.6.1/24/X/2026, the officials who proposed it did not attend.
"The Regent did not attend, the Regional Secretary did not attend, the Head of the Environment Agency did not attend, the Buahdua Sub-district Head did not attend. Those who proposed it to Jakarta did not come. Those who guard the mountain came," Cecep stressed.
Cecep emphasized that Mount Tampomas is not just a mountain. Tampomas is a Cultural Heritage, a water source for Sumedang, and the last bastion of the Baribis-Tampomas Fault whose induced earthquake risk has never been studied.
"For those 22,514 Ha, until today there has been no EIA, no induced earthquake study, no independent socio-cultural study. We are not anti-development, but how could our ancestral land be sold secretly?" he said.
At the momentum of the 2026 Youth Pledge with the theme 'From Tampomas We Ask, For One Homeland, Whose Land Is Being Sold?', the Tampomas Youth Guardians declared three stances:
First, refuse to forget and remind the Regent of Sumedang that the position is a mandate from the people, not from investors. Disclose the contents of the three proposal letters to the public.
Second, demanding the DPRD's promise. They are demanding the results of the DPRD Leadership Meeting, that the 7 conclusions of the October 21 RDPU must become an official DPRD letter to the Regent to revoke the proposal, and an official DPRD letter to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to revoke the SECOND Dictum of Ministerial Decree 309/2025.
Third, declaring the Tampomas Guard Oath.
"We, the Youth of Sumedang Larang Swear, Will Guard Mount Tampomas, Our Water Source and Cultural Heritage, Until the Last Drop of Blood," Cecep declared.
"We will not back down. If the DPRD Leadership Meeting washes its hands, we will take all channels. If the Regent remains silent, we will guard Tampomas in our own way: Insun Medal, Insun Madangan. Tampomas is our one homeland. And we will not let a single inch be sold," he concluded.
